Dr. Samesha Barnes

Director, McNair Scholars Program

Dr. Barnes has served as director and lecturer with the McNair Scholars Program since 2011. Dr. Barnes completed bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Clark Atlanta University and Georgia Tech through the dual-degree engineering program. As a Ph.D. student in Materials Science & Engineering, Dr. Barnes served as a McNair Peer Advisor for four years. Dr. Barnes is originally from Augusta, GA and enjoys writing, blogging, singing, cooking and traveling in her spare time. You can email her at sbarnes@aa.ufl.edu.

Ms. Ronda Vinson

Program Assistant

Ms. Ronda Vinson was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida and has worked at UF since 1995. Ronda serves as a point of contact with faculty, staff, students and their families when visiting the McNair Scholars Program. Her work gives her the opportunity to meet different people from all walks of life and allows her to be a positive role model in the lives of others. Ronda looks forward to many more years with McNair and holds to the principles of an ancient African proverb as it relates to supporting the students in the program, “It takes a village to raise a scholar.” You can email her at vinson@ufl.edu.

Steven Baldizon

Graduate Assistant

Steven is a master's student in the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences since 2018. While pursuing his B.A. in Political Science at UF, he participated in the Hispanic Student Association, Multicultural and Diversity Affairs, Student Government and Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. Now, as Graduate Assistant, he relies on his knowledge of UF and resources available to aid undergraduate student success.
