She not only successfully defended her dissertation this summer but also made history by becoming the first Black woman to earn her doctorate in Neuroscience at the University of Rochester! Florida TRIO Scholarship Recipient

McNair Scholar Anthony Collins was awarded a state-level scholarship at the Inaugural FL TRIO Scholarship Recognition Ceremony. This ceremony honors statewide achievements by participants in TRIO programs. Anthony a 4th-year Behavioral & Cognitive Neuroscience major, minoring in Japanese, has other accomplishments like journal publications and awards outside of McNair. Additionally, Anthony is the co-founder for the UF Kanji Circle, as well as a mentor for the Khoshbouei Research Lab, volunteer presenter for Brain Awareness Week, and member of the Society of Neuroscience and the UF Japanese organizations.

Scholar Tran Ngo Earns Prestigious Scholarship

Congratulations to Tran Ngo for being this year's recipient of the C. William Hall Scholarship presented by the Society of Biomaterials (SFB). Ngo is a third year Biomedical Engineering student, part of the 2019 - 2020 McNair Scholars cohort, who is doing research in the Schmidt Lab. There she is investigating the fabrication and characterization of hyaluronic acid (HA) based on hydrogel scaffolds for peripheral nerve regeneration caused by injuries, which often result in a loss of motor and/or sensory function. With the C. William Hall Scholarship, Ngo will present her research at the upcoming 2020 World Biomaterials Congress in Glasgow, Scotland. Congratulations Tran!

McNair Scholar, Elisabeth Rios-Brooks, is one of the three graduating seniors selected by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the Undergraduate Student Excellence award. Throughout her time at the University of Florida Elisabeth has worked closely with the Bob Graham Center. She has also been recognized by the center as an Askew Scholar, and participated in last summer's Graham Center trip to Washington, D.C. This past November our scholars attended the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) in Anaheim, California. There they all received awards and recognition for their research presentations on their areas of study.
